Dear Friends and Fellow Richmond Community Members
I have had the privilege of serving as a Richmond School Board Trustee for 21 years now. Although a school board trustee is an elected position, I consider my role as a Trustee to be an important civic service, which is very much part of my way of giving back to the City of Richmond where my husband, Andrew, and I have raised 3 sons and have run a business for over 35 years. I truly believe that the need to care for and educate our children and young adults transcends politics and party lines. Even though Richmond students don’t vote for me, I consider them to be my true constituents and everything that I have done in my role as a Trustee has been done in their best interests.
I have worked hard to see that our students have a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment in which to learn and grow. They will be facing many real-life challenges in this rapidly changing world once they leave our school system. As such, they need and deserve a secure foundation to build on, and that is what I have and will continue to stand for.
It’s great to see a renewed interest in municipal politics, and a diversity of opinions is always welcome in a democratic system. However, many of the statements put forth by candidates who are new to Richmond politics are meant to be inflammatory and are aimed at unfairly undermining public confidence in our board and education system. I would note that most of these challengers have not put forth any meaningful agenda or platform or explained how they would make positive changes in our schools.
Unfortunately, many of these candidates do not know what the actual role and duties of a school board trustee are. During this campaign, I have heard candidates make promises that include amending school curriculums and asking for direct involvement in the discipline of students. School board trustees are not authorized to do either of these things.
A trustee’s job is one of governance and oversight—not hands-on involvement. Our responsibilities include approving the Richmond School District’s Budget and developing the District’s 5-year Strategic Plan. We serve on standing committees, seek parental feedback, set policy, and hire superintendents. We also work with and advocate to the BC Ministry of Education on our district’s behalf and provide board decisions to the public.
To see what our goals and aspirations for the next four years look like, please visit our party’s website at empowereducation.ca, where we share and explain our extensive platform with 6 specific targeted areas of concern. If you are a Richmond resident who truly cares about the future of our young people, I ask you to support me and my fellow Empower Education candidates. Our intention is to empower our youth so that they can reach their full potential.

When you cast your vote for me and my fellow Empower Education candidates, you will be voting for proven and engaged leadership which will ensure that our youth will get the support and education they need to meet the challenges they face when they graduate from our school system. As you can imagine, running a political campaign is a costly affair. I would greatly appreciate some financial support to help us cover the costs of running our campaign. We are looking for 100 people we know to donate $25 each to help us with our campaign. Unlike our provincial and federal counterparts, we are unable to offer tax receipts and are trusting that some of our concerns have resonated with you. We are asking for a donation of $25, but larger donations would always be appreciated. If you wish to donate to our campaign, please use this secure Paypal link to donate to Empower Education Richmond:

If after reading this, you feel strongly about this election, please forward this to other like-minded individuals you may know. If you can assist with making phone calls or flyer distribution, that would be much appreciated as well.
Thank you in advance for any support you can provide and don’t forget to VOTE!
